Lesson 01 · Week 1
Welcome to Bridge It — bridges everywhere
Term overview, task walk-through, famous bridges gallery, vocabulary.
Lesson 02 · Week 1
Five bridge types
Beam, arch, truss, suspension, cable-stayed — plus our first mini-build.
Lesson 03 · Week 2
Forces up close — where compression and tension live
Straw bridge challenge, beam deflection experiment.
Lesson 04 · Week 2
Why triangles win — truss geometry
Pratt, Howe, Warren, K-truss. Rigidity test. Diagnostic quiz.

Phase 2 · Design Your Bridge

Weeks 3–5 · Lessons 5–10 · Turn ideas into a finished technical drawing

Lesson 05 · Week 3
Meet the task + form pairs + design brief
Read the task, read the rubric, find your partner, write your brief.
Lesson 06 · Week 3
Research — truss types & construction
6 annotated sources. Civil engineer career spotlight.
Lesson 07 · Week 4
Idea generation — 3 thumbnail sketches
SCAMPER technique, paired peer review, pros & cons.
Lesson 08 · Week 4
Scaled technical drawing at 1:5
Plan + elevation views, technical lettering, dimension lines.
Lesson 09 · Week 5
Isometric rendered drawing
30/120 rule, Y method, three-tone shading.
Lesson 10 · Week 5
Materials list + WHS risk plan
Folio check-in (formative). Folio Part A due next week.

Phase 3 · Build It 🔨

Weeks 6–9 · Lessons 11–18 · Maximum hands-on build time — this is the core of the term

Lesson 11 · Week 6
WHS briefing + hot glue demo + base chord
Safety first. Build the bottom of your bridge.
Lesson 12 · Week 6
Top chord + vertical members
Quality checks — square, straight, even.
Lesson 13 · Week 7
Diagonal bracing — triangulation in action
Rectangles → triangles. This is what makes the bridge strong.
Lesson 14 · Week 7
Mirror the truss — build the second side Folio Part A DUE
Two trusses = one bridge. Symmetry matters.
Lesson 15 · Week 8
Deck construction — the load surface
Connect the two trusses with cross members and deck.
Lesson 16 · Week 8
Peer review + one-improvement lap
Find your weak spot. Fix it. Document it.
Lesson 17 · Week 9
Reinforcement & lamination
Add gussets, laminate weak members. This is the finishing phase.
Lesson 18 · Week 9
Finishing — sanding, aesthetics & title block
Make it beautiful. Attach your title block.

Phase 4 · Test & Evaluate

Weeks 10–11 · Lessons 19–22 · Load test, evaluate, showcase — the payoff

Lesson 19 · Week 10
Dry-run + final repairs
