Term 1 — Introduction to Multimedia: App Building

13 lessons across 10 weeks. Students explored the app economy, applied elements and principles of design, and produced a mobile app prototype in Adalo using a Figma-first workflow.

Archive note: Term 1 was delivered in February–March 2026. This page archives the unit content so students who missed a lesson can catch up, and so the class has a single point of reference for Term 1 work. Formal documentation (Scope & Sequence, Program, Assessment Notification) is kept in .docx form in the TAS Faculty folders.

What we learned from Term 1

After Term 1, student self-reflections identified three main friction points: (1) translating designs into a working application, (2) connecting navigation between screens, (3) writing up the design portfolio. Term 2 has been specifically designed to address these: we reduce the tool stack to VS Code + browser, every lesson ends with a visible artefact, and the portfolio documentation is a single-page evaluation rather than a multi-page folio.

Strong Term 1 work also came from students who chose purpose-driven themes (ocean pollution, food charity, mental wellbeing). Term 2 keeps this: the portfolio is personal and about something you actually care about.
