STATEMENT OF INTENT & RESEARCH

5 marks • IND5-5, IND5-8

What is a Statement of Intent? It explains the PURPOSE of your app — who it is for, what problem it solves, and why it matters. This is the foundation of your entire design process.

1.1 — App Name

What is the name of your app? Choose something memorable and relevant to its purpose.

1.2 — Statement of Intent

Explain your app idea clearly. What does it do? Who is it for? What problem or need does it address?

🌱 Sentence starters

My app is called _____ and it is designed to...
The target audience for this app is...
This app solves the problem of...
Users will benefit from this app because...

1.3 — Target Audience

Describe your ideal user. Consider their age, interests, needs, and how they would use your app.

1.4 — Research: Existing Apps

Find 2 existing apps that are similar to your idea. Describe what they do well and what could be improved. Take a screenshot of each app.

App 2

1.5 — PMI Analysis of Your Favourite Existing App

Choose your favourite app from above and analyse it using Plus, Minus, Interesting.

➕ Plus (strengths)

➖ Minus (weaknesses)

❓ Interesting

1.6 — Key Features List

List the main features your app will include. Think about what screens you need and what each one does.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

5 marks • IND5-2

Design Development shows your creative thinking process — from brainstorming ideas to rough sketches to refined wireframes. Show how your app idea evolved!

2.1 — Mind Map / Brainstorm

Create a mind map exploring your app ideas — features, screens, user flow, visual ideas. You can draw this on paper or use a digital tool, then upload a screenshot.

📷 Upload mind map / brainstorm image

2.2 — Rough Wireframe Sketches

Draw rough wireframes (simple box layouts) for at least 4 screens of your app. Label each screen and show where buttons, text, and images will go. You can sketch on paper and photograph it.

2.3 — User Flow Diagram

Show how a user navigates through your app. Draw arrows between screens to show the flow. You can sketch this on paper or use a tool like Figma.

📷 Upload user flow diagram

2.4 — Design Decisions

Explain the design choices you made. Why did you choose this layout? What did you change from your initial ideas and why?

DESIGN ANNOTATIONS & FIGMA MOCKUPS

3 marks • IND5-2, IND5-4

Design Annotations show that you understand the design principles behind your choices. Use correct terminology — elements (line, shape, colour, texture, space) and principles (contrast, alignment, repetition, proximity, hierarchy).

3.1 — Colour Palette

What colours did you choose for your app? List the main colours and explain why you chose them (mood, brand, accessibility).

🌱 Design vocabulary
contrast harmony complementary analogous warm colours cool colours readability brand identity accessibility hierarchy

3.2 — Typography Choices

What fonts did you choose for headings and body text? Why are they appropriate for your app?

3.3 — Figma High-Fidelity Mockups

Upload screenshots of your Figma mockups. These should be polished versions of your wireframes with real colours, fonts, icons, and images. Upload at least 2 key screens.

EVALUATION

2 marks • IND5-8

4.1 — Evaluate your design against criteria

Rate how well your app design meets each criterion. Click a rating, then explain your choice.

🎨 Visual Design

Does your app look attractive and professional? Is the design consistent across screens?

1 — Poor 2 — Basic 3 — Good 4 — Very Good 5 — Excellent

⚙️ Functionality & User Experience

Is the app easy to navigate? Does the user flow make sense? Would a real user find it intuitive?

1 — Poor 2 — Basic 3 — Good 4 — Very Good 5 — Excellent

🛠️ Use of Design Principles

Did you effectively apply design principles (contrast, alignment, hierarchy, repetition, proximity)?

1 — Poor 2 — Basic 3 — Good 4 — Very Good 5 — Excellent

4.2 — Comparison: Design vs Final App

Compare your original design (Figma mockup) with your final Adalo app. What changed? What stayed the same? Why?

4.3 — What I Would Improve

If you had more time or could start again, what would you change about your design or app?

4.4 — Reflection on the Design Process

Reflect on what you learned. What was most challenging? What skills did you develop? How did the design process help you create a better app?
