IND5-7IND5-8IND5-10

Learning intentions

  • I can reflect on my learning journey over 11 weeks.
  • I can identify careers that use web design skills.
  • I can set one concrete goal for Term 3.

Success criteria

  • I have written a reflection identifying 3 skills I developed.
  • I can name 3 career pathways that use what I learned.
  • I have written one specific, measurable goal for Term 3.

Do Now · 5 min

Open your L02 hello.html from Week 1. Now open your portfolio home page.

What changed? Write one sentence comparing who you were then and who you are now.

I Do · ~10 min Teacher demonstration

Teacher presents career pathways that use web design skills:

Front-End Developer

Builds the UI of websites and apps. Median Aus salary ~$95-130k. Entry via TAFE, university (IT/SE), or portfolio-based bootcamps. Your portfolio is literal evidence for this role.

UX / UI Designer

Researches users, designs interfaces, tests prototypes. Crossover with Term 1 app design. Aus salary ~$85-140k. Entry via design degree, bootcamp, or portfolio.

Accessibility Specialist

Ensures websites work for everyone. Growing demand (legal compliance). Works across government, large corporates, NGOs.

Web Content Manager

Manages the content of websites - a blend of writing, design, and light tech. Good pathway for students who like communication.

Many NSW HSC pathways also build on this: Information and Software Technology (Year 11/12), Industrial Technology (Multimedia stream continuation), Design and Technology, Software Engineering.

We Do · ~15 min Guided build

Together, a short career-fit quiz. Answer honestly:

  1. When you were building your portfolio, did you spend more time on: a) writing words/content b) choosing colours/fonts c) solving layout bugs d) testing accessibility?
  2. What did you enjoy more: making it look good (design) or making it work (code)?
  3. Would you rather build 10 small things or 1 huge thing?

Each pattern suggests a natural direction. No "right" answer.

You Do · ~35 min Independent practice

Write a portfolio reflection (half-page, submit to Classroom):

  1. Three HTML/CSS skills you have now that you didn't 11 weeks ago
  2. One thing in Term 2 you found hardest and how you overcame it
  3. One career pathway (from today's slides or your own research) that interests you — why?
  4. One specific goal for Term 3 (SMART: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound)
  5. Your portfolio URL (in case the teacher forgets)

If time: update your portfolio based on peer feedback from L21.

Differentiation

Support

Provided reflection template with sentence starters.

Core

Write reflection from scratch.

Extension

Also write a short 'pitch' (100 words) as if applying for work experience at a web design studio — use your portfolio URL as evidence.

Exit Ticket · 5 min

Final exit ticket · Term 2

One skill you have now that you didn't have 11 weeks ago:

____________________________________________________

Your Term 3 goal:

____________________________________________________

Final portfolio URL:

____________________________________________________

Well done. You have built a real website. You have learned the language of the web. You have made something that is yours, forever. See you in Term 3.
